Spring 2024 Art Auction
On April 7th, 2024, UVA’s chapter of Sister’s Project Peru hosted its third annual silent art auction at Kardinal Hall, with the goal of raising money toward increasing healthcare access in Huacahuasi, Peru. The event space was positioned in the outdoor section of the restaurant, where guests could enjoy appetizers, drinks, and live jazz music to complement their experience. The auction featured art donations from professional and student artists alike, and also included a table of artwork and tapestries directly from the Huacahuasi community.
In an effort to increase participation and interest, the SPP team aimed this year’s event towards UVA students, and placed particular emphasis on creating a vibrant auction environment that would encourage guests to stick around and learn more about the Sister’s Project Peru mission. Part of this plan included the addition of a collaborative art piece, which allowed auction participants to create a work of art on a puzzle piece in response to the prompt “What does healthcare mean to you?” This shift from past years proved to be a success, with the event drawing over 75 viewers and participants, and 25 puzzle pieces added to the collaborative art project.
Overall, the third annual art auction raised $1,500, which will go directly toward funding accessible healthcare in the Huacahuasi community. The SPP team would like to thank Kardinal Hall for offering their event space free of charge, and Madison Sherman for producing a mini documentary about the silent auction, which can be viewed here!
