Our Upcoming Service Trip

This summer, August 3-10 we will be running a volunteer service trip to visit the community of Huacahuasi. While there, we aim to run dental hygiene programming, collect current data on hemoglobin and iron levels, and begin to address anemia. To help us prepare for our upcoming trip with collecting supplies, contact mkoehnwu@gmail.com.

Huacahuasi, Peru

Sisters Project Peru is a branch project under FNE International dedicated towards assisting in increasing healthcare access to the community of Huacahuasi, a rural village in the Sacred Valley of Peru. In collaboration with Yanapana Peru, a local on the grounds NGO and the community of Huacahuasi, our Goal is to raise funds for a small level 1 clinic in Huacahuasi and work to holistically engage and provide more healthcare access opportunities for the community.

About Huacahuasi

Huacahuasi is a culturally rich village in The Sacred Valley, Peru. Just recently they received access to running water but are still in need of healthcare. Huacahuasi’s population has to walk over three hours to access the closest health clinic in Lares, where lack of access results in numerous preventable deaths. The children and people struggle with malnutrition due to limited protein and other food sources. In addition to malnutrition, anemia, and diabetes, the community also struggles with poor maternal health and family planning resources.

About Our Project

For this project, we are working with the community of Huacahuasi, Yanapana Peru, FNE International, and Asociación Wiñaypaq. The clinic in Huacahuasi will facilitate increased access to healthcare for the Huacahuasi population and the surrounding nearby villages. We are in collaboration with the Peruvian Healthcare System to adopt the clinic into the larger public healthcare system. Once the clinic is constructed, the government has agreed to supply the clinic with medical personel.
